iPad2s for Winners of North West E-Safety Competition 2011

Three young people from across the North West have received IPad2s at a Local Safeguarding Children Board e-safety awards ceremony held on Friday, 8th July in Manchester.

The e-safety competition launched in schools across the North West asked young people to create a resource that could be used to promote e-safety.

Ian Rush, Chair of Manchester Safeguarding Children Board, which helped organise the competition, said: “The judges were very impressed with the high calibre of the entries from the young people.  They showed a sense of fun, an impressive ability to use technology and a real understanding of the importance of keeping safe on-line.”

Lynne Jones, Chair of Tameside Safeguarding Children Board added: “This competition has been an excellent example of Local Safeguarding Children Boards working together to help promote important E safety messages across the North West”.

The 10 year old primary school winner of the e-safety competition from Tameside made a short film entitled BSafe encouraging young people to be social but be safe.

The Manchester Secondary School winner adapted Snow White and the Seven Dwarves for the 21st Century creating a cautionary tale about the importance of using social networking and on-line technologies safely.

The 16-18 year old winner from Tameside made a short animation reminding young people that people on-line aren’t always who they say they are.

The prize for best contribution from a school or community group category was won by a Specialist Humanities College in Sefton, a school for young people with learning difficulties.  The children created a film to illustrate the SMART rules of e-safety.

The prizes have been kindly donated by Securus, RM Education, MCC Digital, the Safeguarding Children E Academy and E-safe Education.
